Given that so many people like to think of themselves as rebels, it's very interesting that asking for compliance--especially with an element of peer pressure thrown in--is much more effective than claiming a partnership. Then again, being out of compliance evokes more emotion than rejecting a stranger's partnership request. So I guess it does make sense.

The rhyming point was another good one. And it explains why some classic advertising slogans/jingles (Folger's, Oscar Mayer) stick with us. But its power must be limited to the human world. I make up rhymes for my dogs all the time and it doesn't seem to get me the desired response one bit!

Humanize. Ethics DOES have a place in persuasion.

When a person/ "prospect" is able to easily and quickly feel familiarity with you/ "marketer" they will assume you as genuine, true and probably good for them.

I also learned to re-frame the Consensus Perspective. People's perception of the majority which they belong to is a major factor.

Nobody wants to feel alienated or bungle with something alien. We tend towards similarity.

"Ooh, look this is my reflection, aren't I handsome/ beautiful and interesting. Of course I will spend some time with myself for my benefit."

Awesome call. Intellectual Rockstar material for sure. Thanks!
Chris Horne

p.s. concerning one of the final call comments... people don't want to think of themselves as "herd" but people have an inherent need to belong. especially the "different" crowd.

Can't wait for 8 p.m.

I'll be doing a play-by-play on the call from Twitter. Anyone who wants to follow along should check out user kellywatson or search for #cialdini hash tags. Will be a great way to catch up if you can't make it!
